The Trust was set up in 1996 to implement the “Environmental Action Plan for Castlemilk, March 1994″, which was produced by consultants City Design Cooperative Ltd, and was commissioned by the original partners in the project; Glasgow Development Agency, City of Glasgow District council, Strathclyde Regional Council and Scottish Homes. This originally planned a 3-year programme of work at a cost of £663,000, however progress was slow and 2 years later the Trust was formed to implement the plan.

In 1999 the Trust consolidated many of these projects into it’s 9 for 99 programme including 6 environmental projects, 2 years funding for the project officer post, the public realm project “Castlemilk Civic Square, and 5 artworks known as “Gateways”. The project costed £715,000 and was funded by the (then) Glasgow Development Agency, Glasgow City Council, Landfill Tax Credits, The Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund and by the Trust’s own resources. The project was completed in February 2000.

The trust has completed smaller projects whilst undertaking these large-scale works at St Martin’s Extended Day Care Nursery and COJAC.
